Remembering Anthony Chiarenza ’18

October 5, 2015

Editor’s note: This article was initially published in The Daily Gazette, Swarthmore’s online, daily newspaper founded in Fall 1996. As of Fall 2018, the DG has merged with The Phoenix. See the about page to read more about the DG.

On the afternoon of Saturday, October 3, Anthony Chiarenza ’18 died in the Crum Woods of an apparent fall. Anthony was a sophomore from Bayside, New York. Although he had not officially declared a major yet, he was planning to major in Chemistry and minor in Linguistics.

A collection was held in Anthony’s memory in the evening of Sunday, October 4. There, friends, classmates, and community members shared memories of Anthony and reflected on their loss. The Daily Gazette would like to provide this page as space dedicated to remembering Anthony. If you would like to share a story about Anthony or offer support to one another, please leave a comment below.

  2. Hello everyone —

We realize that the new Daily Gazette commenting system may be unfamiliar to some students. If you would like to post without creating a Disqus account, you can click into the “or sign up with Disqus” box on the bottom right, which will expand to show an option that reads “I’d rather post as a guest.” Check the box next to this, and you can fill in a temporary username and email, as you always have.

Thank you for sharing any memories of Anthony — I hope we all continue taking care of each other this week.

  3. There’s so many stupid, silly things that he used to say that I’m never going to hear again and I’m so afraid that I’m going to forget some of them.
