StuCo Platforms: Financial Policy Representative: Razi Shaban ’16

My name is Razi Shaban; I am a sophomore and I am running for Financial Policy Representative. Last semester, I was elected to the Student Senate and greatly appreciated the opportunity to be involved with student representation. I often, however, found myself frustrated by a lack of power: without direct communication with the College administration, we could do little.

As a voice representing the student body at the College Budget Committee, I would be able to make student voices heard by the people who have the power to make changes. Many of the controversies of last spring and the continuing campus conflicts tend to be mediated by money — who has it and where it goes. As a student witness at the CBC, I would be able to clarify confusion as to what goes on in the CBC and to serve as a potential liaison for continued discussion about transparency and fair representation.

My primary qualification for this position is my openness to the breadth of the student body. I have made it a goal of mine to try to engage with as many different campus communities as possible, so that I may have a better feel for what issues affect the student body at large.
