Campus Life Representative: Ali Roseberry-Polier ’14

December 1, 2011

Editor’s note: This article was initially published in The Daily Gazette, Swarthmore’s online, daily newspaper founded in Fall 1996. As of Fall 2018, the DG has merged with The Phoenix. See the about page to read more about the DG.

I’m Ali Roseberry-Polier and I am running for Campus Life Representative. I have had a lot of leadership and student government experience throughout high school and even middle school so I feel ready to take on the demands of this position. I’m very organized and creative, which means that I will keep students informed about events in ways that wont spam your inbox! While I think using my artistic skills on the StuCo board to publicize will be great fun, I think the information sent out could be used to make StuCo more accessible and transparent to students. I want Swarthmore students to feel like StuCo is doing its job of representing students and allowing students to give their opinions on the initiatives being undertaken.

An aspect of the Campus Life Representative that I don’t think has really been utilized to it’s fullest in the past is the access to the Tri-Co system. I would like to coordinate Swarthmore campus access to Haverford and Bryn Mawr events to help expand the bubble and give people more advanced notice on events they might be interested in, especially those that require reserving a spot such as the Judith Butler Talks.

I have also noticed that many students are unsure of what StuCo’s role is, or how they would go to StuCo with a resolution or concern. To fully represent this campus, it is important that people know how to get their opinions heard. I plan on publicizing ways to get in touch with StuCo, and hopefully also hold a forum for student groups telling them how to get their concerns heard with StuCo.
