As we close in on the end of classes and the beginning of finals, it’s useful to remember that weekends are the best time to take a good, long study break and enjoy the various arts and cultural events on and around campus. Lilacs are blooming, the weather is amazing, and after all, you don’t have to study that hard, life is open book even if finals aren’t.
Today at 4 you can catch the opening of another senior art exhibit at the List, this week featuring Nick Forrest and Meghan Downie. If you get especially inspired, you might swing by the Kitao and participate in the joint Drama Board and Kitao Gallery 24 Hour Design Festival, culminating at 1 pm on Saturday.
There are several concerts and performances this weekend including the ToeJam Concert at 7 in Lang on Friday, the Orchestra Concert at 7:30 on Sunday, and the Spring Student Dance Concert in LPAC at 8 pm on Friday and Saturday. Saturday night, Olde Club is hosting a Battle of the Bands as well.
Off campus, you can listen to Sibelius’ Violin Concerto (described by a critic as a song to which “one can imagine the waltzing of polar bears”) at Verizon Hall on Saturday at 8 pm while tonight at 8, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is being performed at the Perelman Theater. If you’re in the city on Saturday, join runners and bikers by wandering along the Schuykill with a picnic basket to admire the artwork and sculpture lining Kelly Drive (along the Fairmount Park side of the Art Museum), alternately, get a hold of the Philly Car Share car and drive a little further afield to Valley Forge for pleasant afternoon walk.
