Suspicious Odor

Date: Monday, February 17
Time: 8:13 a.m.
Location: Whittier Meeting House
Synopsis: Public Safety and Facilities responded to Whittier Meeting House for the report of the odor of gas coming from the kitchen area. Upon inspection, it was determined that a pilot light on the stove was out. The situation was rectified.

Synopsis: Public Safety responded to the exterior of Whittier Place for the report of an unknown individual. The area was checked with negative results.

Sex Offense Forcible

Time: 5:20 p.m.
Location: Swarthmore College Campus
Synopsis: A resident student reported to Public Safety that a sexual assault occurred on Swarthmore’s campus on 02/08/14 in the area near Willets dorm. The reporting person said the victim was a known female resident student and the alleged perpetrator was a known male resident student.

Location: Off Campus Location
Synopsis:An online report was received concerning a Swarthmore student currently studying off campus regarding inappropriate behavior towards her by an individual not associated with the program. The matter is under investigation.

Time: 5:09 a.m.
Location: Willets Residence Hall
Synopsis: Public Safety received a report from a Swarthmore resident student in reference to a threatening message via Facebook from an out of state non-Swarthmore student. The matter is under investigation.

Fire

Date: Tuesday, February 18
Time: 1:34 p.m.
Location: Outdoor Area/Fraternity Houses
Synopsis: Public Safety responded to the report of a fire inside an exterior trash can located between Delta Upsilon and Sharples Dining Hall. Upon arrival, Public Safety determined that a cigarette butt had been thrown into the trash can while it was still burning. A staff member from Grounds had already extinguished the fire prior to Public Safety’s arrival.

Location: Worth Health Center
Synopsis: Public Safety responded to the exterior of Worth Health Center for the report of an injured student. The student declined medical treatment but spoke with the on-call nurse.
Status: Cleared

 

Vehicle Accident

Date: Wednesday, February 19
Time: 8:05 a.m.
Location: Sharples Drive
Synopsis: Public Safety responded to the report of an accident involving two college vehicles. There were no injuries reported, but one of the vehicles sustained minor damage.
Status: Cleared

Synopsis: Public Safety responded to the College Post Office for the report of a theft of cosmetics from a package within the post office. The value is $28.58. The matter is under investigation.

Time: 5:02 p.m.
Location: Worth Residence Hall
Synopsis: Public Safety responded to a fire alarm within Worth Residence Hall. Upon arrival, it was determined that the alarm was activated due to steam from a hair dryer.

Time: 2:21 a.m.
Location: Scott Arboretum
Synopsis: Public Safety responded to the exterior of Scott Arboretum for the report of an injured staff member. The staff member declined medical treatment. A Workplace Injury Report was filed.
Status: Cleared

Location: Bond Visitors/Fac. Staff Lot
Synopsis: Public Safety responded to Bond Lot for the report of a Swarthmore resident student vehicle striking a Swarthmore staff member’s vehicle. Neither party was injured.

Location: Sharples Dining Hall
Synopsis: Public Safety, Swarthmore Police and Ambulance responded to Sharples Dining Hall for the report of a student in need of medical attention. The student was transported to the hospital.

Date: Thursday, February 20
Time: 4:44 p.m.
Location: Unknown Location
Synopsis: A Clery Crime Report was submitted by the Title IX Coordinator reporting a rape of a student by a known male student. The matter is under investigation.

Assist to Other Police Department

Date: Thursday, February 20
Time: 6:45 p.m.
Location: Off Campus Location
Synopsis: A Swarthmore resident student reported to Public Safety that she was ropped of an iPhone while in Chester. A report was filed with the Chester Police Department and Widener University. The value of the phone is $400. The matter is under investigation.
UPDATE 2/21/14: The subject was identified and arrested by Chester Police Department.

Location: Willets Residence Hall
Synopsis: Public Safety received a report from a Swarthmore residence student regarding the theft of a prescription, which was left unattended in a public space, from within Willets Residence Hall. The value is unknown at this time. The matter is under investigation.

Synopsis: Public Safety responded to Cedar Lane for the report of an unknown individual attempting to enter an abandoned property through a second floor window. Upon arrival, the individual was identified as a former tenant and left the area with incident.

Location: Kohlberg Hall

Synopsis: Public Safety responded to Kohlberg Hall for the report of a resident student in need of medical response and observed to be unconscious. After evaluation, the student refused medical treatment.

Date: Friday, February 21
Time: 1:06 p.m.
Location: Dupont Lot
Synopsis: Public Safety discovered an unattended student vehicle in Dupont parking lot that was running. Attempts to contact the student were unsuccessful. The vehicle was secured by Public Safety and the vehicle’s keys were taken to Public Safety for safekeeping pending return to the student. The student later contacted Public Safety to arrange to pickup the keys.

Synopsis: Public Safety responded to Hallowell Residence Hall to transport a sick Swarthmore resident student to Worth Health Center. Upon arrival, Swarthmore Police and Ambulance responded to transport student to the hospital.

Date: Saturday, February 22
Time: 1:32 a.m.
Location: Parrish Hall
Synopsis: While on patrol, Public Safety confiscated drug paraphernalia that was found within Parrish Hall. The matter is under investigation.

Purchase, Consumption, Possession, Transportation of Liquid Malt Brew

Date: Sunday, February 23
Time: 4:14 a.m.
Location: Woolman Residence Hall
Synopsis: Public Safety responded to Woolman Residence Hall for the report of a sick Swarthmore resident student and transported the student to Worth Health Center. Upon evaluation it was determined that the student needed to be transported to the hospital. Swarthmore Police and Ambulance responded. The student will be cited for underage drinking.

Synopsis: Public Safety received a report of a violent aggression toward a fellow student at Olde Club. This matter is under investigation.
