What is your pick for Best Picture for the Oscars?
Pedro Ennes ’27: “The Secret Agent.” It is a Brazilian movie that has been nominated. It won a Golden Globe. Also “Sinners.” Yeah, I’m really rooting for those two: “The Secret Agent” or “Sinners.”
Nathan Zhang ’28: Oh wow, I did say I was a film bro … I’m going to say … “One Battle After Another.”
Lemuel L’Oiseau ’26: I don’t even watch the Oscars, I don’t even know any of the top runners. [After hearing which movies were nominated:] Yeah, I have not watched any of them, unfortunately. Give it to Michael B. Jordan.
Bella Stephens ’28: I mean, I don’t know. I heard good things about “Sinners,” but my brother also really likes “Marty Supreme.” So… one of those two.
Kayla Nicholas ’26: I heard good things about “Sinners,” so I guess “Sinners.”
Should Will Smith be allowed back to the Oscars?
Pedro Ennes ’27: Yes. Yes. Bring my man back. Ten years is a lot for a slap, come on now! Who hasn’t wanted to slap a bitch. He was very justified. Clap if you never want to slap a bitch … Silence.
Nathan Zhang ’28: Well, I feel like no. But like my secret answer is that it was lowkey entertaining. Hmmm, on the record, actually yes. Yes, because it was justified.
Kayla Nicholas ’26: He should be allowed back. Water under the bridge. Let bygones be bygones.
Lemuel L’Oiseau ’26: That is a tough one. Here’s what I will say. I think it should be a conversation that should be had between Will Smith and Chris Rock. Since Chris Rock got … then he should have a larger say in what happens since he was embarrassed on national television.
Bella Stephens ’28: Um. Yeah, I think so. I mean, oh well.
Joshua Weinstein ’29: I think he should be allowed back. He’s already been punished, and I think people deserve another chance. If he slaps somebody again, then I think there’s a good case for him to be banned permanently.
Charlie Watson ’27: Yeah, I think it’s fine. I’d love to see some bit where Chris Rock slaps him back. Like he’s gotta work his way back into it — take the punishment. It would be really, really funny if Will Smith wasn’t in on it, and just gets slapped in his first time back.
Did you dominate midterms, or did midterms dominate you?
Joshua Weinstein ’29: I dominated midterms. Well, I didn’t even really need to study for most of mine, and I still did pretty well. So I’m good.
Nathan Zhang ’28: Well, I think neither, because I’ve still yet to take my midterms. So I am yet to be dominated, or to dominate.
Lemuel L’Oiseau ’26: Funny enough, I am a super senior, so my class load is really light right now. I’m only taking 2.5 credits right now, so my midterms are there, but it is just like a quiz here and there. So I guess I am dominating them.
Pedro Ennes ’27: In the middle, a little bit of both.
Bella Stephens ’28: I didn’t have any midterms. At all.
Charlie Watson ’27: I didn’t really have midterms. I’m in only seminars and English courses, so it was just essays. I guess the essays I dominated, but no exams to worry about.
Kayla Nicholas ’26: I have not had any midterms yet. I’m going to say I’m going to dominate them.
What are you doing for Spring Break?
Charlie Watson ’27: Yeah, the baseball team’s playing all week long. I think we drive down Friday, and then play Saturday through Thursday. We’re the one team that doesn’t get to go to the beach, unfortunately. We’re like four hours away.
Pedro Ennes ’27: I’m gonna be staying on campus. I will be lying in the grass, reading my book, and also going to Shenandoah National Park.
Lemuel L’Oiseau ’26: I’m going on the ultimate frisbee Spring Break trip to North Carolina.
Bella Stephens ’28: I’m staying on campus and catching up with readings from class.
Kayla Nicholas ’26: I’m going back to New York.
Nathan Zhang ’28: I’ll stay on campus, run some errands.
Joshua Weinstein ’29: I’m going to Lexington, SC, for baseball.
Craziest Spring Break memory?
Nathan Zhang ’28: Last year, I biked from here to New York City. It took two days. [Interviewer: Did you take breaks?] Well, I mean, yeah, I slept.
Pedro Ennes ’27: Lowkey, I don’t remember what I did for Spring Break last year. I think my Spring Breaks have been chill. My Winter Breaks have been kind of crazy. The Winter Breaks have always been a little messy for me … Let’s just say interpersonal relationships.
Lemuel L’Oiseau ’26: This is really only my second “trip Spring Break.” Last year I also did a frisbee trip, in the sense that I was in a beach house in Wildwood, NJ, for four days. We had a talent show — that was pretty crazy. I sang.
Bella Stephens ’28: I went to, I don’t know, it’s not that crazy. I went to New York last year with my friends, and we were in the third row for a Broadway show. We saw the Book of Mormon.
Kayla Nicholas ’26: Last Spring Break, I went to Central Park, and it was like 80 degrees; that was pretty crazy.
Joshua Weinstein ’29: I’ve never really done anything crazy over break.
Charlie Watson ’27: I hate to join the club, but I really don’t have anything crazy. Just take the same baseball trip every year I’ve been here.
