Eric Bromberg ’26:
Corinne Lafont: What was your experience with Screw this year?
Eric Bromberg: It didn’t go as I expected. I think the person who set me up had a lot of friends, and I was like, “Oh, it’s probably gonna be one of them.” And then it was someone I had never seen before.
CL: How’d you feel about the public-facing aspect?
EB: I thought that it was awesome. I love the whole event of it [and] people watching each other’s costumes.
CL: How would you describe the event to someone that’s never gone?
EB: It’s a great opportunity to get out of your comfort zone.
Arfath Hossain ’27:
Corinne Lafont: How was your experience with Screw?
Arfath Hossain: I’ve never done it before, so this was my day. I thought it was an interesting experience for the both of us, and I thought it was a great time. It was nice meeting somebody new, and then, you know, having a [conversation].
CL: Did you find it awkward?
AH: I think it was a little awkward in the beginning. You’re on this blind date. All of your friends are around you. I’m dressed up as Mickey Mouse, which is kind of ridiculous. And it’s also even more ridiculous because I met her the night before at Olde Club, and I was dressed up as Bob Ross, and I looked like Ice Spice with my wig on, so I introduced myself as Bob Ross/Ice Spice. And then the next day, she was my Screw date. So you can imagine how I was feeling when I met her. Nonetheless, I think it was still a really good time. And I think we got over the awkwardness pretty quickly.
CL: How’d you like the music?
AH: I listened to it. I thought it was amazing. I was really into the guitarist, actually. I think his name was Jacob Velarde [’27]. The costume part, I think, was great. I was Mickey Mouse. I did nothing for it. I made a real fugazi Mickey Mouse out of ears. And we were Mickey and Minnie.
CL: Would you do Screw again?
AH: Yeah, I definitely would. I think Screw is a great experience, and I recommend it to other people.
Shaalin Gamble-Sarfo ’29:
Corinne Lafont: How was your experience with Screw?
Shaalin Famble-Sarfo: It was pretty great. I had one of my friends set me up. I was a football player, and he was a referee. We met up. It was nice. We got food together, and we chatted. It was nice getting to know someone new.
CL: Was it awkward?
SFS: Me, personally, I didn’t really find it awkward because I was like, just in the zone, just getting to know someone new. I don’t know. I just felt pretty chill with it, probably because I saw him more as a friend and not really romantically. But, I think that it was pretty fun overall. All the people around, and the music was nice. It was pretty.
CL: How’d you like the music?
SFS: I thought it was really good. The music was beautiful, especially that vocalist. It was amazing.
CL: Would you do it again?
SFS: I think I would — I would. I would.
Haven Wenzel ’28 & Olivia Cloutier ’26:
Haven and Olivia became “official” to their track team last night, at Screw. Previously, their relationship secret wasn’t out to their friend group.
Corinne Lafont: How was your experience with Screw?
Haven Wenzel: I have some very lovely friends who offered to set me up for Screw. And now we’ve [Haven and Olivia] been going out. And so I figured I didn’t really want to do like an actual Screw date, but because some people didn’t know, I thought it would be really funny. We were going out and so I said, “Yes, I would love to do Screw but only if you could set me up with a particular person because they’re involved.” This was something we were gonna do at [our friend] Rica’s expense. But unfortunately, one of us [Olivia] gave up the game after a little bit.
Olivia Cloutier: I can’t keep secrets.
HW: Yeah, it was a nice dinner. Really fun.
OC: It was fun … [In response to Haven’s glare:] Okay. It was magical. Magic, magical … I liked the live music. Yeah, added to the atmosphere.
Margaret Sawa ’29:
Corinne Lafont: How was your experience with Screw?
Margaret Sawa: It was good.
CL: Was it awkward?
MS: Yeah, it was very weird.
CL: So after this experience, would you say you do it again?
MS: I would definitely try it again.
CL: And how’d you like the live music?
MS: Yeah, it felt like a lot … but it was nice. A lot of people, like too many people at once, yeah, loud music playing, all right, cool.
Shelby Destin ’29, Angely Kelly Maduro ’29, and Tim Nagornyi ’29:
This group came to watch, rather than participate in dates.
Corinne Lafont: How’d you like Screw?
Shelby Destin: I honestly didn’t see much, but I did notice that most people just dressed differently for the occasion, and it was pretty cool.
Angely Kelly Maduro: I liked the outfits. I’m a musician, so I thought the music was cool, but it’s just not my vibe.
Tim Nagornyi: I enjoyed it. I enjoyed coming into the dining hall. There were a lot of people, and it was fun seeing the people in their costumes and, you know, speculating. Just fun seeing what was going on. And I did enjoy the music a lot. I thought the music was good. It added some ambience, and the dining felt like an event. As in regards to whether or not I would participate, I don’t know, if it came about naturally and my friends were like, “Hey, Tim, let’s get you to this crew,” then maybe. But otherwise I wouldn’t really push through.
Asa Zengerle ’29:
Corinne Lafont: How was your experience doing Screws?
Asa Zengerle: It was a fun time. We had a lot in common. We talked a lot. Went and played pool after. It was super cool.
CL: Did you feel like people were watching you?
AZ: I mean, someone was, like, taking pictures at one point that was a little strange [referring to Corinne]. But, like, besides that, you know, it was, it was, I mean, like, it’s a small school. It was a crowded dining hall, you know, kind of expected, right?
CL: Would you do it again?
AZ: Yeah, absolutely, it was fun.
