Swarthmore Athletics

Isabela Bloomquist ’25, a sophomore from Boulder, CO, was an indispensable part of Swarthmore women’s lacrosse’s thrilling 12-11 overtime victory over Dickinson College on Saturday, April 8. She made five goals and two assists in the game, tallying a season high of seven points. Bloomquist has started and played every game for the Garnet thus far and has racked up an impressive 33 goals, already surpassing her total goals from last season (30 goals). It is no wonder she has generated so many goals, as her shot-to-make percentage is 47.8 percent and her shots-on-goal percentage is an excellent 76.7 percent. The Garnet are currently 8-1 overall, and their next game is on Saturday, April 15, against McDaniel College.

Abby Chang: How did you feel about the win against Dickinson this weekend? How did it feel to score five goals and have two assists in such an exciting game?

Isabela Bloomquist: It was a really exciting, back-and-forth game, so it felt really good to be able to pull out the win. The team as a whole played really well, and I was just happy to be able to help my team in any way that I could to ensure that we came out on top.

AC: What have been some of the highlights of the season?

IB: Our win against Widener was definitely a memorable one. We lost to them last year, and we were determined to flip the script this year, so getting that win was really rewarding.

AC: What are some of the team’s and your personal goals for the rest of the season?

IB: Last year was the first time in ten years that we had made the Centennial Conference tournament, so we are really working towards doing that again this year.

AC: Do you have any pre-game or post-game rituals?

IB: My teammate, Abby Love ’25, always braids my hair pre-game. I am also a big fan of pre-game dance parties both in the locker room and on the field.

AC: What is your favorite thing to do with the team outside of practice?

IB: This season, the rest of the sophomores and I have made a little tradition to go out to eat together the night before a game, and I have enjoyed this time together and look forward to it every week.

AC: Why did you choose Swarthmore? What is your area of study?

IB: I chose Swarthmore because it offers me the opportunity to play lacrosse at a highly rigorous institution. I get the best of both worlds here at Swat, and I am so grateful for that. I am a political science and Spanish double major, hoping to go to law school after graduation.

AC: What is your favorite class that you’ve taken at Swarthmore?

IB: So far, my favorite class that I have taken at Swat has been American Foreign Policy. I have really enjoyed learning the theories behind why certain decisions are made and being able to apply what I learn to current events.

AC: Favorite Dining Center bar?

IB: My favorite Sharples bar has to be either pasta bar or ice cream sundae bar.
