College Democrats
The College Democrats returned with their proposal from last week. Their request for a transfer of $200.00 from their funds for transportation to those for all-campus events ($150.00) and group events ($50.00) remained the same. There was again some discussion regarding the number of on-campus food events the College Democrats wanted to host; it was ultimately decided that the circumstances allowed for doing so as it is a presidential election year. The group also wants to host an off-campus event in an attempt to network with local Democrats. There was a proposal for a transfer of only $150.00 to all-campus events; the proposal passed unanimously.
180 Degrees Consulting
180 Degrees Consulting returned with a revised proposal from that of last week. The amount of requested funds was significantly reduced from over $1000.00 to $511.68. These changes were made after the group found free housing. The funds requested would pay for conference registration fees and transportation to Boston. There was a short discussion on whether the group could also request funding from the Dean’s Office, but they already had an event funded by the Dean’s Office. Funding from the Dean’s Office is only available for one event per year for an organization. Full funding was proposed and passed unanimously.
Club Fencing
The Club Fencing team requested a transfer of $600.00 from their funds for registration fees to their funds for services. The treasurer made a mistake in filling out the paperwork and accidentally paid registration fees with money from their services fund. Full transfer was proposed and passed unanimously.
Women’s Ultimate Frisbee
The Women’s Ultimate Frisbee team requested a transfer of $452.00 from their funds for services to their funds for registration fees. The transferred funds would pay for the group’s USA Ultimate registration fees. A full transfer was proposed and passed unanimously with one Committee member abstaining from voting.
Swarthmore Asian Organization (SAO)
The Swarthmore Asian Organization requested $91.55 in reimbursement for their transportation to the East Coast Asian American Student Union (ECAASU) conference. The conference was in February, which raised the issue of retroactive funding. Conditional funding had been approved with the expectation that the Dean’s Office and Center for Innovation and Leadership would provide additional funding. However, SAO never received a response from these two departments. It had been unclear to the group that a representative should have returned to the Student Budget Committee with a request for the gap in funding before the conference. Full funding was proposed and passed unanimously.
Animal Allies
Animal Allies is a recently-revived student organization dedicated to environmental activism and animal rights. The group requested $30.00 in funding for food, which would be used to host an interest meeting. As it is relatively late in the semester, the Student Budget Committee recommended that the group instead apply for funding through Swatstruck (formerly Ride the Tide) and hold an interest meeting for the prospective students. There exists the possibility of greater funding and attendance by doing so. The representatives of Animal Allies agreed with the recommendations and no vote was taken by the Committee.
