Vehicle Accident

Date: Monday, August 18th

Time: 5:05 p.m.

Location: Grandstands

Synopsis: Public Safety responded to the report of a vehicle striking another vehicle parked by Grandstands in Fieldhouse Lot. There were no injuries.

Status: Closed

Suspicious Odor

Date: Tuesday, August 19th

Time: 7:36 a.m.

Location: Whittier Meeting House

Synopsis: Public Safety and Facilities responded to the report of an odor of gas within Whittier Meeting House. Upon arrival, it was determined that a staff member made an unsucessful attempt to light the pilot on the stove.

Fire Alarm

Date: Wednesday, August 20th

Time: 3:27 a.m.

Location: Sproul Observatory

Synopsis: Public Safety responded to a fire alarm that was received for two different locations within Sproul Observatory. Upon arrival, it was determined that both alarms had been activated by a pull station, but no pull station could be located. Facilities was notified.

Vehicle Accident

Date: Wednesday, August 20th

Time: 1:55 p.m.

Location: Bond Visitors/Faculty Staff Lot

Synopsis: A Public Safety officer reported he caused minor damage to the door of another vehicle in Bond Lot. Vehicle owner was contacted.

Date: Thursday, August 21st

Time: 10:15 a.m.

Location: Off Campus, Unknown Location

Synopsis: On 8/20/14, Public Safety was contacted by an individual from out of state who reported that a Swarthmore student was harassing her via telephone. Upon investigation it was determined the harassing individual was not a student and was not associated with the College.

Theft

Date: Saturday, August 23rd

Time: 3:01 p.m.

Location: Sharples Dining Hall

Synopsis: Public Safety responded to Sharples Dining Hall for the report of the theft of a Swarthmore student’s backpack. The backpack was later found within Sharples by a Swarthmore employee and was returned to the student.

Safety Hazard

Date: Monday, August 25th

Time: 10:13 a.m.

Location: Palmer Residence Hall

Synopsis: Public Safety received a report from a concerned Swarthmore student regarding a safety hazard outside of Palmer Residence Hall. Upon arrival, Public Safety observed three metal rods sticking out of the ground near the side entrance and the building’s fire escape. Grounds and Facilities were notified.

Fire Alarm

Date: Monday, August 25th

Time: 10:30 a.m.

Location: Lang Center for Social Responsibility

Synopsis: Public Safety and Facilities responded to the Upward Bound Office within the Lang Center for a fire alarm. Upon arrival, there was no sign of smoke or fire. Investigation determined that a smoke detector had gotten wet, causing the alarm to activate.

Theft from Motor Vehicle

Date: Tuesday, August 26th

Time: 3:52 p.m.

Location: Sharples Dining Hall

Synopsis: Public Safety received a report from a Swarthmore resident student regarding a window that had been shattered on a vehicle that was parked outside of Sharples Dining Hall. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the owner of the vehicle, and Swarthmore police were notified. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the theft of a purse had occurred. The purse and its contents were valued at $80. The matter is under investigation.

Bicycle Theft

Date: Wednesday, August 27th

Time: 10:16 a.m.

Location: Willets Residence Hall

Synopsis: Public Safety received a report from a Swarthmore resident student regarding the theft of a bicycle from the exterior of Willets Residence Hall. The theft occurred between August 26th, 2014 and August 27th, 2014. The value of the bicycle is $600. The matter is under investigation.

Time: 9:06 a.m.

Location: Sharples Dining Hall

Synopsis: Public Safety received a report from a Swarthmore resident student regarding the theft of a backpack from Sharples dining hall. The theft occurred on August 27, 2014. The estimated value of the backpack and its contents is $100. The matter is under investigation.

Time: 12:03 a.m.

Location: Dana Residence Hall

Synopsis: Public Safety responded to the exterior of Dana Residence Hall for the report of unknown individuals in the construction area. The area was checked with negative results.

Vehicle Accident

Date: Friday, August 29th

Time: 10:15 a.m.

Location: Worth Health Center

Synopsis: Public Safety responded to the gravel adjacent to Worth Health Center for the report of a vehicle accident. Upon arrival, a Swarthmore employee had backed into the wooden fence surrounding the lot and broken one of the beams. Facilities was notified.

Date: Friday, August 29th

Time: 2:00 p.m.

Location: Mary Lyons Residence Hall

Synopsis: Public Safety received a report from a Swarthmore student about the theft of items from stored boxes within Mary Lyons storage. The value of the items is approximately $200. The matter is under investigation.

Time: 2:33 p.m.

Location: Mary Lyons Residence Hall

Synopsis: Public Safety received a report from a Swarthmore student about the theft of items from stored boxes within Mary Lyons storage. The value of the items is unknown at this time. The matter is under investigation.

Assist to Other Police Department

Date: Saturday, August 30th

Time: 11:11 a.m.

Location: Fieldhouse Lane

Synopsis: While on patrol, Public Safety heard over the radio that Swarthmore Police Department was being dispatched to the Crum by the railroad tracks for an unknown individual. Upon arrival of Public Safety and Swarthmore Police Department the area was checked with negative results.

Medical Emergency

Date: Saturday, August 30th

Time: 3:10 p.m.

Location: Crum Meadow

Synopsis: Public Safety and Swarthmore Ambulance responded to the Crum Meadow for the report of an unconscious individual. The individual was not affiliated with the College. Upon arrival, the individual was transported to the hospital.

Date: Saturday, August 30th

Time: 6:37 p.m.

Location: Lamb Miller Fieldhouse

Synopsis: Public Safety and Swarthmore Ambulance responded to the Lamb Miller fieldhouse for the report of a non-Swarthmore athlete in need of medical assistance. The student was transported to the hospital.

Synopsis: Public Safety responded to the exterior of Old Tarble for the report of an injured student. The student was transported to the hospital.

Time: 9:24 p.m.

Location: Clothier Hall

Synopsis: Public Safety recieved a report from a Swarthmore student about the theft of speakers within Clothier Hall. The value of the speakers is approximately $4,600. The matter is under investigation.

Assist to Other Police Department

Date: Sunday, August 31st

Time: 2:09 a.m.

Location: Morganwood Development

Synopsis: While on patrol, Public Safety heard over the radio that the Swarthmore Police Department was being dispatched for a possible disturbance at a college owned property. Upon arrival of Public Safety and Swarthmore Police, the individual was identified and it was determined that there were no issues within the residence.

Fire Hazard

Date: Sunday, August 31st

Time: 10:52 p.m.

Location: Sharples Dining Hall

Synopsis: While on patrol, Public Safety found cleaning towels sitting on the stove within Sharples Dining Hall. The towels were removed.

Date: Monday, September 1st

Time: 12:14 a.m.

Location: Mary Lyons Residence Hall

Synopsis: Public Safety received an email from a Swarthmore student advising another student may have found a master key.
