The Daily Gazette is Hiring for Spring 2010

Editor’s note: This article was initially published in The Daily Gazette, Swarthmore’s online, daily newspaper founded in Fall 1996. As of Fall 2018, the DG has merged with The Phoenix. See the about page to read more about the DG.

You’ve read the Gazette all semester and spent hours commenting when you should have been writing that paper. Now, you can be a part of the Gazette itself and produce thorough, informative, heart-warming articles on things that matter, things Swatties do and some other things that don’t matter quite as much.

The Daily Gazette is always on the look-out for more staff members, whether you plan to be extraordinarily prolific or an occasional, thoughtful contributor.

Available Positions

Staff Writer: New reporters start here. Commitments are flexible, but generally expect to write about one article a week. (If you already have extensive experience, talk to us and we can work something out.)

Photographer: Staff photographers choose photographs to take each week, which range from covering specific events to taking photos for articles. Those who are interested also do stories via photojournalism or other multimedia forms when applicable.

Columnist: In the past, the Gazette has published columns on topics ranging from penis numbing to the adventures of an anthropomorphic, conservatively-oriented guinea pig, from what may be best described as mystical sea adventures to travels abroad. We’re always on the look-out for more amusing, provocative, interesting points of view for the next semester.

Videographer: In the time-honored tradition of the Mustache November Shave-off (Do you like mustaches? Do you really like mustaches? Then click that.) and the Screw Spectacular, the Gazette is interested in having a videographer or two join the staff.

Web Developer/Designer: The Gazette is looking for someone to join the web development team, to fix things that bug you about the site and make awesome new features. (The site is written in everyone’s favorite high-level language, Python, using the excellent and exceedingly learnable Django framework.) Ideal candidates would know at least one of Python/Django/making dynamic web sites/web design, but the only real requirement is willingness to learn. Pay will negotiable dependent on the amount of “learning time” required. Right now would be a great time to start. 🙂

Email us at dailygazette@swarthmore.edu if you’re interested in any of the above or want to carve out your own niche.
