How long is your email username reserved after you graduate?

February 28, 2007

Editor’s note: This article was initially published in The Daily Gazette, Swarthmore’s online, daily newspaper founded in Fall 1996. As of Fall 2018, the DG has merged with The Phoenix. See the about page to read more about the DG.

Many things change during your time at Swarthmore, but one thing is forever faithful: your email address! However, one day, you shall have to say good-bye to that trusty combo of your first initial, the six letters beginning your last name, and a number. Once you graduate, this username is passed on right away to future Swatties sharing that same combination.

According to Judy Downing, Director of ITS, there havenít been any reports of students recieving e-mail intended for a graduate. However, if this has happened to you, contact ITS!
