NEWS REPORT

1)  Daily Gazette news stories fall through, editor writes silly article

“Uh oh,” Daily Gazette editor Lorrin Nelson ’00 said when Public Safety
responded to his inquiries with “You’ll have to talk to Owen Redgrave
tomorrow.” “Tomorrow” is past The Daily Gazette’s “tonight” deadline, so
the planned story had to be pushed back. Nelson said “Oh [expletive]!” when
he was informed that there was no coverage of Student Council because
contributing writer Maureen Vernon has a broken leg. Less tragic, but also
relevant to the non-existent article is the fact that the meeting was a
closed retreat and not a meeting anyway.

In an apparent effort to undermine The Daily Gazette’s credibility, Nelson
chose to write an article about nothing. “I’m the Phoenix’s best friend!”
Nelson declared, referring to the odd combination of his repeated and
flagrant disregard for journalistic standards and his high-ranking position
amongst the Gazette staff. “I think he just thinks people will think it’s
funny if he writes about himself, but it’s not,” said Joanna Student ’02.

According to a recent student survey, however, it turns out that Nelson’s
efforts were perhaps unnecessary. “No campus news? Fine, as long as the
weather is included.  You know, a girl just can’t get dressed in the
morning without knowing which shoes are appropriate for the day,” BoHee
Yoon ’01 said.
