Sports in brief: softball splits with Arcadia
In print | April 16, 2009
The Swarthmore women’s softball team faced a formidable opponent for the past two games, not in the opposing team, but in the weather.
The team’s past two games, the first against Centennial Conference challenger McDaniel College and the second against Washington College, have been postponed due to rainy conditions. Swarthmore will travel to play against the Shorewomen this Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
The McDaniel game has been rescheduled for Monday, April 26 at 1 p.m., marking the second to last Garnet home contest and the Senior Day game.
In their most recent game, the Swarthmore women split the result on the road against Arcadia University in a double header, with an 8-0 loss redeemed by a 5-1 victory. In the first game, the Garnet women just couldn’t put it all together.
Kathryn Riley ’10 secured three hits, but no runs resulted. Elizabeth Mills ’11 and Alexandra Zelaski ’09 also came away with a hit apiece at their first-ever collegiate at-bats.
In the second game, Krista Scheirer ’11 came away with three hits and two runs. Kira Kern ’11 also had three hits, while Riley ’10 added two.
Riley pitched all seven innings and stuck out seven of the Knights’ hitters.
