Volleyball

Swarthmore College 3, Dickinson College 0

Opening conference play at home against Dickinson College, the Garnet swept the Red Devils for a 3-0 win. Early into the match, Swarthmore led an advantage, holding off any possibility of a Dickinson comeback to take the first stanza. The Garnet won the second and third sets with comfortable leads, ending the third 25-17 to end the game.

Notable players: Isabel Adams ’28 and Alexia Enache ’27 led Swarthmore with nine kills each. Melissa Eyer ’28 had 15 digs and Emily Sun ’27 made 23 saves. 

Swarthmore College 3, Ursinus College 2

In a reverse sweep against Ursinus College, Swarthmore won their second conference game 3-2. Losing the first two sets in tight-knitted scores of 25-22 and 25-19, the Garnet found its comeback in the third set, with a 25-23 win. The Garnet response continued throughout the next set, dominating 25-14. In the game-determining fifth set, the Bears made a poor serve to end the set, allowing Swarthmore to finish the game with an exciting win. 

Notable players: Isabel Adams ’28 and Keira Miles ’28 each made an astounding 18 kills. Emily Sun ’27 set up multiple point-winning plays with 30 assists. Melissa Eyer ’28 made an impressive 28 digs. 

Field Hockey

Swarthmore College 4, McDaniel College 0

This past Saturday, Garnet field hockey opened conference play with a 4-0 lead against the McDaniel Green Terror. Swarthmore led the game with an aggressive attack, testing the McDaniel defense with multiple shots on goal. By the end of the first quarter, the Garnet were up 2-0. A continued attack had Swarthmore in a comfortable 4-0 lead at the end of the second quarter. When the buzzer sounded, Swarthmore had outshot McDaniel 17-0, securing a well deserved win and their third shutout game. 

Notable players: Hannah Ulrich ’28 led the Garnet offense, scoring the first and second goals of the match. Amelia Landry ’26 and Katherine Kohn ’25 each scored a goal. 

Swarthmore College 0, Bryn Mawr College 1

On Wednesday night, away at Bryn Mawr College, the Swarthmore Garnet fell 1-0 to the #10 Owls. After a scoreless two quarters, Bryn Mawr scored in the 36th minute to take the lead. As the two teams ramped up their offense in the third quarter, the Garnet defense held against the Owls. The last quarter saw Swarthmore struggling to garner an offensive attack, leaving the Garnet with their first conference loss. 

Notable players: Cassandra Conklin ’26 made four crucial saves. 

Women’s Soccer

Swarthmore College 2, Franklin and Marshall College 2 

On Saturday night, the Garnet found themselves in a 2-2 tie against the Franklin and Marshall Diplomats in a crushing conference game. After a 0-0 first half, Swarthmore netted two goals in the 49th and 80th minute. However, in the last five minutes of the game, F&M responded with two goals of their own. This is the Garnet’s fourth draw of the season. 

Notable players: Ava Gizzie ’27 and Charlotte Carleton ’27 each scored a goal, Gizzie leading the Garnet with eight shots. Sofie Aird ’27 made five saves. 

Swarthmore College 2, Widener University 1

This past Tuesday, Swarthmore College women’s soccer won a well-deserved 2-1 game against Widener University. In an aggressive offensive transition against the Pride, the Garnet scored off a cross in the 12th minute. Leading 1-0 by the end of the first half, Swarthmore found its second goal off of another cross three minutes into the second half. Despite a Widener goal in the 68th minute, Swarthmore held a strong defensive shape and allowed no goals for the rest of the match. 

Notable players: Ava Gizzie ’27 had a dominant game, scoring their eighth and ninth goal of the season with assists from Emme Hansard ‘25 and Isa Specchierla ’26

Men’s Soccer

Swarthmore College 1,  Franklin and Marshall College 2

On Saturday evening, Swarthmore College men’s soccer fell to #23 Franklin and Marshall College at Clothier Stadium. After tense back and forth shots in the first half, the Diplomats scored in the early second half. In the 66th minute, the Garnet leveled the game, 1-1. However, with five minutes remaining, F&M scored a game-winning penalty kick, driving the Garnet to its first loss of the season. 

Notable players: Len Yamabe ’27 scored the Garnet’s only goal with a Kaito Hikino ’26 assist. JohnPaul D’Andrea ’28 led Swarthmore with two shots. Christian Bignotti ’25 played boldly, making a career high seven saves. 

Swarthmore College 2, Washington College 1

Away against Washington College on Wednesday night, Swarthmore men’s soccer lost their dominating lead to lose the game 3-2. Up 2-0 by the end of the first half, the Garnet looked strong in the attack. However, in the second half, Widener responded with two goals to take away a Swarthmore lead, out shooting the Garnet 9-5. In the 87th minute of play, Widener took a successful penalty kick, defeating Garnet. 

Notable players: Adrien Marcelli ’26 and Joseph Eyiolowope ’26 each scored a goal. Christian Bignotti ’25 made two saves.
