Baseball:

Swarthmore College: 10, Widener University: 6

On Thursday, March 30, Swarthmore’s baseball team faced Widener University at home on Clothier Baseball Field. The Garnet had ten runs off of ten hits to secure a 10-6 victory over the Pride.

Notable Players: Aidan Sullivan ’26 and Nate Jbara ’23 led the Garnet offensively, earning two runs-batted-in and two hits each. 

Swarthmore College: 6, Franklin and Marshall College: 8

On Saturday, April 1, Swarthmore’s baseball team played Franklin and Marshall College in a double-header at home to open Centennial Conference play. In the first game, the Garnet took the lead in the third inning, yet a four-run seventh inning and three-run ninth inning for the Diplomats secured their victory. The Garnet lost, 6-8.

Notable Players: Austin Burgess ’23 and Joe Radek ’24 both scored home runs. Liam Alpern ’25 pitched six innings and had six strikeouts.

Swarthmore College: 4, Franklin and Marshall College: 3

On Saturday, April 1, Swarthmore’s baseball team played in their second of two games against Franklin and Marshall College. With a total of six hits, the Garnet earned four runs to defeat the Diplomats, 4-3.

Notable Players: Burgess had another home run and two runs-batted-in. Noah Potholm ’26 pitched five innings and had six strike-outs.

Swarthmore College: 6, Muhlenberg College: 18

On Tuesday, April 4, Swarthmore’s baseball team competed against Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. In the first of a two-game series against the Mules, the Garnet had eight hits and only six runs, falling to the Mules, 6-18.

Notable Players: Sullivan had two hits, two runs, and two runs-batted-in on four at-bats. Zach Potthoff ’25 pitched one inning, allowing no hits and no earned runs. 

Softball:

Swarthmore College: 2, Gettysburg College: 0

On Saturday, April 1, Swarthmore’s softball team faced Gettysburg College in a double header at home on Clothier Softball Field. In their Centennial Conference opener, the Garnet had five hits and earned two runs to defeat the Bullets, 2-0.

Notable Players: Molly O’Sullivan ’24 was stellar on the mound, pitching a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and no walks.

Swarthmore College: 9, Gettysburg College: 1

On Saturday, April 1, Swarthmore’s softball team played their second of two games against Gettysburg College. To secure a sweep in their conference opener, the Garnet had eleven hits and nine runs, triumphing over the Bullets, 9-1. 

Notable Players: Alexandra Simon ’24 had two runs-batted-in at four-at-bats.

Swarthmore College: 4, Immaculata University: 6

On Tuesday, April 4, Swarthmore’s softball team faced Immaculata University in a double header. Competing in Immaculata, PA, the Garnet had an impressive twelve hits, yet with only four runs, the Garnet fell to the Mighty Macs, 4-6. This double header marked the Garnet’s last non-conference matchup of the season.

Notable Players: Emily Bertrand ’25 led the Garnet offensively with three hits and one run. 

Swarthmore College: 8, Immaculata University: 2

On Tuesday, April 4, Swarthmore competed in their second game against Immaculata University. Splitting the double header, the Garnet had eleven hits and eight runs to defeat the Mighty Macs impressively, 8-2.

Notable Players: Lane Barron ’26 pitched four innings, allowing just two hits and zero earned runs. Iris Barone ’26 had three hits and two runs. Olivia McClammy ’25 had three runs-batted-in.

Men’s Golf:

On Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1, Swarthmore men’s golf team competed in the Arcadia Augustine Intercollegiate in Stafford, VA. The Garnet earned a runner-up finish to Catholic University, after leading in the opening round on Friday. The Garnet finished with a two-round score of 613. Swarthmore men’s golf will compete next in the E-Town Spring Invitational on Thursday, April 6.

Notable Players: In the opening round of play, Ben Lee ’24 and Neil Zhu ’26 tied for fourth overall with scores of 76 and finishing five over par. Zhu was named the individual champion after scoring 70 (-1) in his second round. The freshman was the only golfer to shoot one-under par. 

Men’s Track and Field

On Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1, Swarthmore men’s track and field competed in the Danny Curran Invite in Chester, PA, at Widener University. On the first day of the Invite, the Garnet competed in four events: 5000-meter run, the discus throw, the shot put, and the triple jump. On the second and last day, the Garnet competed in eight events: 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 800-meter dash, 1500-meter run, 3000-meter steeplechase, long jump, and the 4×400-meter relay. Over the course of both days, the Garnet earned six top twenty finishes.

Notable Athletes: Ethan Rothenberg ’23 took fifth in the 800-meter dash with a time of 1:55.77. Colin DeLaney ’25 placed second in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:39.56. 

Women’s Track and Field:

Swarthmore women’s track and field competed in the Danny Curran Invite in Chester, PA, at Widener University on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1. On the first day of the Invite, the Garnet competed in two events: the discus throw and the 5000-meter run. On the second day of the Invite, the Garnet competed in twelve events: 400-meter dash, 60-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, high jump, pole vault, javelin, 800-meter dash, 1500-meter run, hammer throw, long jump, and the 100-meter hurdles.

Notable Athletes: Adria Retter ’23 placed first overall in the discus with a top distance of 49.22 meters, nearly ten meters farther than the second place finisher. This result puts Retter in the No. 1 spot in the event in all of Division III outdoor track and field. Olivia Montini ’26 finished fourth overall in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:18.16. Rose Teszler ’23 placed first overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.26 seconds. Krystle Boadi ’23 placed second overall in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.73 seconds. Sophia Springer ’26 tied for fourth place in the pole vault with a top mark of 2.80 meters. 

Women’s Tennis:

Swarthmore College: 3, Johns Hopkins University: 6

On Saturday, April 1, Swarthmore women’s tennis faced Johns Hopkins University in Swarthmore, PA. The No. 20 ranked Garnet fell to the No. 31 ranked Blue Jays, 3-6. The Garnet won only one of three doubles matches and two of six singles matches. 

Notable Players: In the No. 3 seeded doubles match, Spencer Watts ’24 and Oviya Kumaran ’24 triumphed, 8-5. Kathleen Shiffer ’26 won the No. 3 seeded singles match, 6-2, 6-2. Nathalie Williams ’25 won the No. 1 seeded singles match, 6-2, 6-2. 

Men’s Tennis:

Swarthmore College: 5, Johns Hopkins University: 4

On Saturday, April 1, Swarthmore men’s tennis faced Johns Hopkins University at home in the Mullan Tennis Center. The No. 29 ranked Garnet defeated the No. 8 ranked Blue Jays, capturing two of the three doubles matches and three of the six singles matches. 

Notable Players: In the No. 2 seeded doubles match, Max Lindstrom ’26 and Rushil Patel ’24 took an easy 8-1 victory. In the No. 1 seeded doubles match, Michael Melnikov ’26 and Utham Koduri ’26 fought for a win, 8[7]-7[1]. In the No. 1 seed singles match, Melnikov fought for another victory, coming out on top, 6-2, 1-6, 1[12]-0[10].

Men’s Lacrosse:

Swarthmore College: 13, Franklin and Marshall College: 6

On Saturday, April 1, Swarthmore men’s lacrosse played Franklin and Marshall College at home. The Garnet took an early 4-1 lead in the first quarter and maintained their momentum to defeat the Diplomats, 13-6. This marks the first time Swarthmore men’s lacrosse has beat Franklin and Marshall College since 2009.

Notable Players: Jackson Brosgol ’23 led the Garnet with three goals, and Von Mabbs ’24 had two goals and two assists. Ryan Pretzer ’26 was stellar in goal, making fifteen saves. Pretzer had a .714 save percentage. 

Women’s Lacrosse:

Swarthmore College: 5, Franklin and Marshall College: 18

On Saturday, April 1, Swarthmore women’s lacrosse faced Franklin and Marshall College at home on Clothier Field. The Diplomats took an early lead, and the Garnet were ultimately not able to catch up, losing the game 5-18.

Notable Players: Emma Holub ’23 scored two goals off of four shots.

Swarthmore College: 12, Ursinus College: 15

On Wednesday, April 5, Swarthmore women’s lacrosse played Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA. The Garnet were trailing, 4-10, by halftime and ultimately fell to the Bears, 12-15.

Notable Players: Isabela Bloomquist ’25 and Sophie Finkelstein ’25 led the Garnet offensively with three goals each.
