What Happened? with Mike Kappeler

Editor’s note: This article was initially published in The Daily Gazette, Swarthmore’s online, daily newspaper founded in Fall 1996. As of Fall 2018, the DG has merged with The Phoenix. See the about page to read more about the DG.

The Gazette features (usually) weekly shows from the student radio station WSRN. The shows are picked by the WSRN Board. You can find podcasts of all the student shows on WSRN’s site, or listen live online or on 91.5 FM.

This week’s pick is What Happened?, with ITS staff member Mike Kappeler. Mike had this to say about the show:

Sample advertisement

What Happened? is a staff-run show that focuses primarily on psychedelic music from the 60’s and 70’s and related sub-genres such as krautrock, heavy psychedelic, drone, and more.

The shows usually have an underlying theme tying them together. Past shows have focused on international psychedelic sounds of the 60’s and 70’s, the evolution of psychedelic into the heavy psych of the late 60’s and 70’s that would go on to influence more mainstream bands. Recent shows have branched out to include examples of contemporary music that have been heavily influenced by these sounds from the past. Side by side comparisons of covers and originals can be expected.
