A bill was introduced to the Senate yesterday that would require the Supreme Court to televise its public sessions. A ban on cameras in all federal courts dates all the way back to 1937.
After four days of trial, a Belgrade court found President Clinton and many other world leaders guilty of war crimes and sentenced them to 20 years in jail for the bombing of Yugoslavia.
Forbes magazine released its annual ranking of the nation’s richest people yesterday. Bill Gates remains on the top of the list for the seventh year in a row.
As the election approaches, Al Gore proposed tapping the nation’s emergency oil reserve to lower the gasoline prices. George W. Bush accused him of risking national security for “short-term political gain.”

SPORTS UPDATE
1) Field hockey falls to national #1
The field hockey team traveled to Annville yesterday to take on Lebanon Valley which is ranked #1 in the national coaches poll. Swarthmore was 16th on the list before the game. The score was 1-0 at half time, but the Garnet failed to close the gap, eventually falling 3-0. Goal keeper Kate Nelson-Lee ’03 performed admirably in the losing effort with 26 stops.

Romania swept all three medals in the women’s gymnastic individual all-around. Andreea Raducan was the first Romanian to claim the all-around title since Nadia Comaneci in 1976. …A major disappointment in the Games yesterday was the faulty vault setting. The vault was set 5 cms too low, causing many gymnasts, including America’s Elise Ray, to fall. Ray scored 7.618 as a result. …The wild card race in the American League was tightened even further by a double header split between the Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox. Thus the Indians maintain their fragile half game lead over the Oakland A’s heading into today’s game against the Kansas City Royals.
