HEADLINES SPANNING AMERICA, EUROPE, AFRICA, AND SPICEWORLD

Captain Richard Ashby, the Marine pilot whose jet severed an Italian ski
lift cable last year to send 20 passengers falling to their deaths, was
acquitted Thursday of all charges in the case by a court-martial jury of
eight Marine officers in North Carolina. The verdict prompted reactions
ranging from bewilderment to outrage from Italian government officials.
Ashby had faced twenty counts of involuntary manslaughter and a few lesser
charges… Uganda has launched a massive manhunt against the Interahamwe
militia, the Rwandan Hutu rebel group responsible for murdering eight foreign
tourists in a Ugandan national park on Monday. Hundreds of soldiers and policemen
from both Uganda and Rwanda crossed the border into the Republic of Congo
Thursday, and a Ugandan military official reported that 15 rebels had been
killed in an ambush… Rev. Al Sharpton and ten supporters were arrested
Wednesday afternoon after protesting New York City police brutality by
blocking traffic at Wall Street and Broadway.  The group was charged with
disorderly conduct and released after summonses were issued… In a report
released on Thursday, Amnesty International strongly criticized the United
States for sexual abuse committed against female prison inmates by male
guards… Victoria Adams, better known to the world as Posh Spice, gave
birth to a 7 lb. baby boy in London Thursday evening, thus becoming (after
Scary Spice Mel Brown) the second Spice Mother.
