NEWS REPORT

1) Danawell residents reimbursed for items lost during renovation

Hallowell and Dana residents have claimed about $300 as compensation
for the loss of the residents’ toiletries.  However, this rough estimate
may only be part of the final total; only three RAs from the six floors
affected (Hallowell and Dana 1 – 3) have submitted claims.

Alice Balbierer, Swat’s Facilities Manager, called the incident “a series

of errors” and attributed the unfortunate circumstance to a mix-up
between
the contractors hired to re-do the dorms and the housekeeping staff.
According to Balbierer, in what was “just one of those unfortunate
things,”
the contractors removed the items while installing new shelving in the
bathrooms and placed them in trash bags to keep them from getting marked
by
dust or paint. Housekeeping staff then mistook the bags for genuine trash

and threw away the students’ shampoos, soaps, toothbrushes and assorted
other items.

Joanna Perry ’00 who lost ten dollars worth of products takes a
philosophical view of the occurrence.  The Hallowell second resident
says,
“It’s more important that the bathrooms got remodeled than that I lost my

stuff.”  Arun Mohan ’00, a Hallowell third floor resident,  says that he
found the mix-up to be an “inconvenience, but its okay because I’m being
reimbursed.”
