What to Expect This Weekend: Conference Play Begins, Double-Headers

This weekend, one away game and nine home games are scheduled to take place – that’s every spring team, excluding men and women’s track & field and men’s tennis. Here’s what to expect: 

Baseball

Oneonta State @ Swarthmore College

Currently riding a four-game winning streak, the Swarthmore baseball team hopes to boost their overall record to 8-5 this Saturday against the Red Dragons. After sweeping Penn State Brandywine 14-6 on Wednesday, March 20, the Garnet will be entering the double-header this Saturday afternoon with a boost of confidence. Look for continued strong performances from Tim Kwilos ’13, Rory McTear ’13, Ramsey Walker ’13, Scoop Ruxin ’15.

Game 1 is set to start at 12 p.m. at Clothier Field, Game 2 is set to start at 3 p.m.

Women’s Lacrosse

Ursinus College @ Swarthmore College

Swarthmore’s women’s lacrosse opens their conference play this season with a home game against the Bears. After a four-game winning streak, the Garnet was delivered their first loss by Amherst on Tuesday, March 19, with a final score of 11-8. Bouncing back quickly off the loss loss, the team rallied against Cabrini College in a 17-9 victory yesterday, March 21. Keep an eye on the field for Annalise Penikis ’13, Elyse Tierney ’15, Lizzie Kolln ’16, and Connie Bowen ’16.

First draw is set to start at 12 p.m. at Clothier Field.

Softball

Rutgers-Newark @ Swarthmore College

After finishing their spring break trip with an impressive 6-2 record, the Swarthmore softball team plays their first game – or anywhere besides Myrtle Beach, South Carolina – at home in a double-header against the Scarlet Raiders. The weekend provides barely any break for the Garnet, as they return to Clothier Field for another double-header against Penn State Berks. Look for continued strong performances from Kate Smayda ’13, Rose Pitkin ’14, Melissa O’Connor ’14, and Suness Jones ’16.

Game 1 on Saturday is set to start at 1 p.m., Game 2 is set to start at 3 p.m.

Game 1 on Sunday is set to start at 1 p.m., Game 2 is set to start at 3 pm. 

Women’s Tennis

Swarthmore College @ McDaniel College

Swarthmore’s women’s tennis also kicks off conference play this season against the Green Terror, after splitting their spring break with a 5-4 win over St. Lawrence University and a 7-1 loss against the Naval Academy. With two wins and one loss under their belts, the Garnet are looking to continue their winning season. Keep an eye on the courts for Kelsey Johnson ’13, Emily Rosemblum ’13, Lia Carlson ’14, and Jackie Lane ’16.

The game is set to start at 1 p.m.

Men’s Lacrosse

Ursinus College @ Swarthmore College

After a rocky 1-4 start to their season, the Swarthmore men’s lacrosse team will be looking to add a win to their record with a conference win against the Bears. The Garnet’s last game was one week ago, with a 12-7 loss against an unbeaten Keene State. Look for continued strong performances from Wes Marcik ’13, Jonathan Cohen ’14, Geli Carabases ’14, and Jonathan Molloy ’14.

First draw is set to start at 3 p.m. at Clothier Field.
