WOMEN’S SOCCER: Garnet Head to Conference Playoffs, Four Named All-Centennial
SWARTHMORE, Pa. — The Swarthmore women’s soccer team is set to make its third consecutive appearance in the Centennial Conference Women’s Soccer Championships. This year’s edition will again take place at Homewood Field on the campus of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. The Garnet women (9-3-4 overall, 5-1-4 CC) earned the No. 3 seed in this year’s Conference Championships and will take on the No. 2 seed, Dickinson Red Devils (11-3-3, 7-2-1 CC), in the second semifinal on Saturday, Nov. 8. The game will start 60 minutes following the first semifinal, approximately at 2:30 p.m. Swarthmore topped the Red Devils, 1-0, earlier this season and have won three consecutive matches over Dickinson. LANCASTER, Pa. — The Conference head coaches bestowed All-Centennial honors to four Swarthmore women’s soccer players, seniors Cait Mullarkey and Lauren Walker, and sophomores Megan Colombo and Laura Bolger. Mullarkey and Walker were selected First-Team while Colombo earned a second-team nod and Bolger was honorable mention. Mullarkey is the first Centennial defender, and just the fifth player in Conference history, to make the first team all four seasons.
MEN’S SOCCER: #11 Swarthmore To Host Centennial Conference Championships, Nesterak Named POW
SWARTHMORE, Pa. — The Centennial Conference Men’s Soccer Championships makes the first-ever appearance at Clothier Field this coming weekend. The Garnet, recently ranked 11th in the nation, will face off against the No. 4 seed Dickinson Red Devils (12-4-2, 5-2-2 CC) in the second semifinal on Saturday, Nov. 8. Swarthmore takes Clothier Field in the second semifinal 60 minutes following the first contest, with the start at approximately 1:30 p.m. Fans can follow all the action at www.swarthmore.edu/athletics.
LANCASTER, Pa. — Swarthmore senior Evan Nesterak was named Offensive Player of the Week for men’s soccer, as announced by the Centennial Conference office on Monday morning. Nesterak, a forward, scored a pair of game-winning goals this past week as the Garnet defeated Muhlenberg and arch-rival Haverford by 1-0 counts. He leads the team with eight goals in 2008, ranking in top-10 all-time in program history
FIELD HOCKEY: Gunter Named All-Centennial
LANCASTER, Pa. — Swarthmore senior midfielder Ashley Gunter was selected Second Team All-Centennial on Tuesday afternoon, in a vote conducted the Conference field hockey head coaches. It is Gunter’s first All-Conference nod. She led the Swarthmore field hockey team with eight assists in 2008, listing in the top-10 in the Centennial.
