GOLF: Garnet Duffers Open Season in Central Pa

LEBANON, Pa. – The Swarthmore golf team kicked off the fall schedule at the Lebanon Valley College Fall Invitational, placing 19th out of the 23 teams hitting the Lebanon Valley Country Club layout on Sept. 22. Cabrini took top team honors with a 295, followed closely by Franklin & Marshall (297) and Rutgers-Camden (297). The Garnet posted a team score of 343 despite starting three freshmen. First-year Alex Nichamin paced Swarthmore with an 82 at the 6,564-yard course.

CROSS COUNTRY: Three Garnet Women Hit Top Ten on Main Line

HAVERFORD, Pa. — The Swarthmore women’s country had three runners place in the top-ten (Nyika Corbett ’10, Marissa Frick ’12, Kathy Feeney ’09), while Patrick Hartnett ’11 led the men’s team with a personal best, at the Main Line Invite on the campus of Haverford College late Tuesday afternoon.

VOLLEYBALL: Owls Swoop Past Garnet In Five-Setter

SWARTHMORE, Pa. — Garnet senior Jen Wang, a recent addition to the 1,000-kill club, posted a match-high 19 kills with 14 digs while classmate Erin Heaney registered a season-high 23 digs in a 3-2 Centennial loss to the Bryn Mawr Owls on Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night at Tarble Pavilion Wednesday evening.

MEN’S SOCCER: Knights Circle Garnet, Collect Upset Win

SWARTHMORE, Pa. — Visiting Arcadia (4-5) got a goal from Matt Benner in the 27th minute and withstood a 25-5 Swarthmore shot-advantage, claiming a 1-0 upset victory over the Garnet (5-2) on a cool Wednesday evening at Clothier Field.
