At the World Debate Championships in Dublin over break, Christopher Ford ’07 and Garth Sheldon-Coulson ’07 represented Swarthmore as one of the highest ranked American teams in a field of well over 300 teams from around the globe.

At the Rutgers Debate tournament in January, Julie Baker ’08 debated in the final round of the first large tournament of the year with a partner from the University of Maryland. Baker was also 6th speaker in a field of 80.

At the North American Debate Championships at the University of Toronto, Baker and Molly Piels ’08 were ranked the 14th team on the continent. Baker was also 9th speaker out of 130 competitors.

Last weekend, at the Bryn Mawr debate tournament, Miles Skorpen ’09 and Alex List ’09 were 2nd novice team and Skorpen was 6th novice speaker out of a field of 62 teams. Nick Malinak ’09 was 8th novice speaker. Baker and Ben Warren ’08 missed the quarterfinals break by a hair and Baker was 5th speaker.
