Squirrel humor, part 2: I think the campus squirrels are getting more
aggressive. They’re getting pissed that we keep stepping on their food.
Tonight: Mostly clear. Low in the mid 40s.
Right now, all they do is hurl acorns at us from the trees. But it
won’t be long before you walk up Parrish hill and see an army
of angry squirrels lined up across the top, armed and ready for revenge.
Tomorrow: Partly cloudy. High in the mid 60s.
If that happens, there will no longer be any doubt that life really
is like a Monty Python sketch.
NEWS REPORT
1) Party raises more than $600 for AIDS walk
Friday’s fundraiser party for the Philadelphia AIDS Walk raised more than
$600, even more than last year’s astonishing $500, and all that despite
the fact that there was no huge all-campus publicity campaign, since the
party was not SAC-funded. Visitors were asked to donate $5, and although
some people grumbled, “most were okay with it because the money was going
to a good cause,” said Karina Kacala ’02, the organizer of Swarthmore’s
AIDS walk team. For their $5, students got red ribbons, condoms, and three
types of music: jazz by Standard Exploration,
blues by the Wayne Miller Backwater Blues Tribute Band, and then a DJ, so
the audiences got three different moods throughout the night.
Students will be tabling at Sharples this week to raise more money for the
AIDS walk, which will be held Sunday, October 17.

SPORTS UPDATE
1) Men’s rugby takes down Albright
The men’s rugby team beat Albright 52-10 Sunday. Tries were scored by
Kelley Hauser ’00 (2), Pablo Montagnes ’02 (2), Elijah Porter ’00, David
Plante ’00, Josh Lindsey ’01, and Kyung Lee ’02, and Jerome Bushnell ’00
kicked six conversions. This win sends the team on to divisional playoffs.

2) Women’s soccer triumphs over Neuman
The women’s soccer team beat Neuman 3-2 in a home game yesterday. Neuman
led 2-1 at the half, but Claire Hoverman tied the score off an assist from
Heather Marandola, who scored the game-winning goal. The team is now 5-6
overall.

Mets win NL wild card with 5-0 win over Reds. …Houston heads to Atlanta
as underdogs. … FSU players questioned for shoplifting. …Maple Leafs
improve to 2-0 after win over Boston. …NFL expansion talks continue.
