WEATHER FORECAST

Today: Partly cloudy. High in the upper 70s.
The worst thing about reserve reading is having to enter the icebox
that is McCabe when it’s  gorgeous outside.

Tonight: Cloudy. Low around 60.
Maybe we could fence in an area on the lawn, so you could take your
reading outside while still technically being on library grounds.

Tomorrow: Clouds and rain. High in the low 70s.
If we added a swing set and a jungle gym, we could call it “Plato’s
Playground” and provide some good clean intellectual fun for Ville kids…

NEWS REPORT

1) Mental health support group formed

Last night was the first meeting of Swarthmore’s newest student group, a
support group for depression and other mental health concerns. Anna Staab
’02, one of the group’s organizers, said that the group’s goal is to have
a place where people can openly discuss mental health issues. “We want to
cut down on the isolation that people can feel. You can feel like you’re
the only one,” she said.

Staab said she had felt that mental health issues were not openly
discussed at Swarthmore, but that such discussion can be enormously
beneficial. “I feel like it can be a positive thing, to be open about it.
It can be a healing thing,” she said. Eventually, the group hopes to also
work on increasing awareness of mental health issues on campus as well.

The group’s next meeting will be Sunday at 6, in a location not yet
determined. All meetings are strictly confidential and intended only for
people struggling with mental illness.
