1) World news roundup
UNITED NATIONS RESOLUTION CONDEMNS IRAQ AGAIN
The United Nations Security Council issued a resolution Thursday condemning
Iraq’s lack of cooperation with weapons inspections teams. Though the
resolution, which was approved unanimously by the fifteen nations
represented in the council, does not threaten force on behalf of the U.N.,
President Clinton issued harsher statements warning that military action by
the United States was still an option. Britain also declared that military
force against Iraq would be a justifiable action.
HURRICANE MITCH DEATH TOLL STILL RISING
The number of confirmed dead from Hurricane Mitch’s Central American
rampage rose to over 11,000 Thursday as Nicaragua reported 3,800 lives
lost. Thousands of others are still missing throughout battered Central
American countries. The United States also announced that its emergency
aid package would be increased to 70 million dollars.
IN OTHER NEWS…
The Israeli Cabinet debated for thirteen hours Thursday over the approval
of the recently crafted agreement for peace with the Palestinians, and will
continue to do so Friday. … House Judiciary Committee Chairman Henry Hyde
