The Phoenix’ Policies

All content from the newspaper can be found on The Phoenix website indefinitely, but will be removed from search engines 365 days after initial publication. The Phoenix does not publish the names of students who receive police citations, although it does reserve the right to publish the names of any students who are arrested by the police. The content available on the website will accurately and fully reflect the content published in a given week’s issue. Those students whose records are expunged by court order and who would like the content on The Phoenix’s website to accordingly reflect such developments should directly contact the editor in chief. The Phoenix staff recognizes that the newspaper’s audience is a small campus community; therefore, reporters and editors continue to strive for a balance between reporting events in a factual manner and respecting the privacy of community members.

Given The Phoenix’s status as a community newspaper, and given the fact that it is staffed completely by students, students are urged to respect the boundaries of business and personal life in dealing with concerns about the paper or its content. Members of The Phoenix are deeply committed to maintaining open dialogue with students in a healthy and appropriate context. Thus, any threats or harassment of Phoenix staff will duly be considered serious. Such actions will be consequently referred to local law enforcement and will be dealt with as necessary.

The weekly unsigned staff editorial is reached by consensus at the Phoenix editorial board meeting. If a given editorial does not represent the consensus opinion of the editorial board, it will be expressly noted in that editorial.
