Campus late night dining options unacceptable

To the Editor:

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

I recently went to Essie Mae’s famished on a Sunday night only to find that they were out of chicken fingers, fries, burgers, grilled chicken strips, long rolls, kaiser rolls and hamburger buns. This was on top of their usual Sunday night shortages of yogurt, pudding, applesauce and salad boxes. This is unacceptable.

I’ve heard the argument that Essie Mae’s is not a dining hall, but this is not a valid one. Students on the meal plan should have the flexibility to enjoy a full dinner after 6:30 p.m. Hence, while keeping Essie Mae’s well stocked is a good short-term solution, it is not enough. Swarthmore must expand its capacity to provide hungry students with dinner later into the night. It’s time for the administration to act.
