The article “Power dynamics under the covers,” [Jan. 26, 2006] by Carol Trevey and Anna Chiu, has several interesting implications. The article left me feeling rather jaded, a bit confused and ultimately violated. Of course, the insight Miss Trevey and Miss Chiu present was appropriate (they speak from experience, I’m sure). However, what intrigues me is that these fine, upstanding young women would discuss such vulgar things as anal sex and rim jobs at the dinner table.
Please excuse me, being a member of the Borough I have always held Swarthmore College students in high regard. So when I read this disturbing article and thought about the confusion in these girls’ minds I was deeply distraught. Upon further soul-searching, analyzing and investigation I have come to a conclusion. It is obvious to me that this semi-weekly column “More Lube” serves as a desperate attempt for attention! This would explain the anecdote supplied by the authors in which a supposed Carmen (a cover for one of the authors) deals with the issue of power imbalances during anal sex. Now it makes sense: This column is a desperate cry, if not shout, for attention from these horrible anti-social girls. Their forum is The Phoenix, and their basic attempt is to gain more attention from men or women for sexual relationships.
My suggestion to the authors is that they make their intents a little more subtle. And if they do wish to correct the power imbalance during anal sex — maybe a nice black bean burger with extra veggies will suffice?
