The Frog Hollow Golf Club in Middletown, De. was the site of the Garnet Golf team’s well-deserved victory last weekend in the Wilmington College Classic. With a two-day total score of 640 (320-320), the Garnet embarrassed the second and third place teams, Wilmington and the University of the Sciences, by over 50 strokes. The Garnet’s only competition came from itself, as Tide golfers took first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth place in the composite standings.

Mike Cullinan ‘06 led the Garnet to victory with a final score of 156. He won the second round with a score of 75, just six strokes ahead of teammate Ed Goldstein ’07. Goldstein led the competition after the first round with a five over par 76, three strokes ahead of Wilmington’s Alex Brown and five strokes ahead of Cullinan. In the second round, though, he carded an 81, conceding a one-stroke composite lead to Cullinan amd finishing with a score of 157.

Brown came in third place, followed closely by Zach Moody ‘07 in fourth with a total of 162. He carded 81 both days, barely beating out teammate Eric Zwick ’07 at fifth place. Zwick posted scores of 82 and 83 for a composite score of 165. The Garnet’s final player in the tournament, Matt Draper ’05, earned a sixth place standing with a 168 (85-83).

“We played well. We were able to defeat Wilmington by a substantial amount and the team is in good condition,” Goldstein said. “We look forward to the competitions ahead of us.”

The unstoppable Garnet golfing machine was scheduled to host Neumann, Cabrini, Arcadia and Wilmington on Monday at the Rolling Green Golf Club, but the event was cancelled due to poor weather conditions. Wilmington College, already victim of a thorough clubbing at the hands of the Garnet over the past weekend, was probably grateful for the cancellation.

The Garnet look invincible after the virtually uncontested victory in the Wilmington Classic, and hope to make the best of the momentum they are currently enjoying. Look for the team to rack up more wins in the days to come. This Friday, they will be traveling to Pine Crest Golf Club to face Alvernia, Neumann, Cabrini and PSU-Berks at the Gwynedd Mercy Invitational.
