Future of Japanese program in jeopardy
The Council on Educational Policy recommended against adding the Japanese program to the regular college budget, according to a memo Provost Connie Hungerford sent to faculty shortly before spring break. The grant that was used to start the program three years ago will run out after next year, and without a commitment for long-term funding, the future of courses in Japanese language, society and culture at Swarthmore is in limbo.
