Article misrepresented quote

Dear Editor:

STAFF EDITORIAL

I am writing to put into better context the comment I was quoted as making regarding Student Council Co-President Ryan Budish ‘04 in an article last week (“SC candidates debate,” April 24, pg. 4). The quote was, "It comes down to organization. Let’s say your name is Ryan Budish, and you’re working on a paper. You should be organized enough to remember that at 5:25 you should be getting down to Sharples." While the quote itself was completely accurate, the joking manner in which the comment was made was not at all conveyed in the article.

The unorganized nature of the presidential debate was just as much Student Council’s fault as it was Budish’s fault. We organized it at the last minute, and it was nothing more than a test run. Now we know how to improve it.

More importantly, the quote gave the school the impression that Ryan Budish was unorganized and irresponsible. This is simply not true. Anyone who is balancing his academic load with practice for a varsity sport and Student Council is allowed at least one mistake. His contributions to this school are invaluable. While most of the student body will never know how much Budish does for the school and the students, I hope that his hard work and accomplishments are not overshadowed by this small mistake.
